In late 2009, the makers of Tylenol voluntarily recalled several of their product brands as a precautionary measure, including many infant Tylenol drops that were manufactured between April and June of 2008 because an unused portion of one inactive ingredient did not meet all quality standards, according to www.tylenol.com.
Pediatrician Recommendation
Many pediatricians recommend Tylenol Infant Drops to infants for fever or pain and, according to www.tylenol.com, have done so for more than 50 years. The medication is considered safe for infants as long as it is taken as directed.
Liver Damage
There are a few safety concerns about using Tylenol Infant Drops with Acetaminophen. Taken more than five times in a 24-hour period or taken with other acetaminophen products, Tylenol Infant Drops may contribute to liver damage.
Drug Interactions
The Tylenol website warns you to ask your pediatrician or pharmacist before giving Tylenol Infant Drops to your infant if she is on the blood-thinning drug warfarin.
