Become Ascp Certified

The ASCP issues certifications in 20 different categories.


Founded in 1922, the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) has over 430,000 members. The organization received accreditation from the American National Standards Institute in 2007 to offer certifications for Medical Technologist and Phlebotomy Technologist. The ASCP Board of Certification offers certifications for different areas of study including Medical Laboratory Technician, Blood Banking Technologist and Chemistry Specialist. The application fee differs depending on the type of certification a person requires. The self-paced process is easy to maneuver once all of the required coursework is completed.


Instructions


1. Complete all the required training and courses necessary for the field you are requesting certification.


2. Collect proof of your education and experience that meets the requirements for the certification test you are requesting. Documents may include college transcript and references.


3. Apply for the examination. Complete this step by submitting an application for the specific test. Along with the application, you have to provide a non-refundable application fee and all of the documents collected in the previous step. An online application process is available if a person is paying by credit card. If not, then you must mail in the paperwork.


4. Schedule your examination. After the approval of your application, you must select an examination date. The date must fall within three months of receiving the approval letter.


5. Study for the exam and take the test on the scheduled date. Now,wait for the results. The results are available in approximate 10 business days after testing.


6. Get the certificate in the mail. If you pass the examination then you will receive your certification certificate in four to six weeks.
