Depending on your age and how much life insurance you want to purchase, you might be required to have a physical examination to qualify. Knowing what to expect can ease your mind.
Examiner
A life insurance medical exam is done by a doctor, a paramedic, or a registered nurse. Most insurance companies use a paramedic or registered nurse. They often do the exam in the customer's home or office.
Identification
The examiner will want to confirm your identity. Have some form of picture identification with you. A driver's license or passport is ideal.
Height and Weight
Your height and weight measurements will be taken to make sure you are of a healthy weight for your height.
Medical History
The examiner will probably ask about your medical history and any diseases that run in your family. For instance, he will want to know whether there is a history of a certain type of cancer in your immediate family. Have a list of your medications for the examiner.
Blood Pressure, Heart and Lungs
Your blood pressure will be taken, and the examiner will listen to your heart and breathing. You might be required to have an EKG done to confirm heart health, and X-rays to determine bone health.
Urine and Blood Samples
You will be required to give urine and blood samples. These samples will be used to check for infectious diseases, kidney disease, liver disease, immune system disorders, alcohol use, tobacco use, and narcotics use.
