Educational and training opportunities in radiation therapy.
Radiation therapists are responsible for delivering radiation to cancer patients for treatment purposes. These therapists must prepare the equipment and patient for therapy, ensure the proper amount of radiation is administered, follow radiation safety and protection procedures, keep records and observe patient for any complications. Because these treatments continue for a period of four to six weeks, it's important for therapists to care for a patient and help relieve any anxiety or stress that is associated with cancer treatment.
Manhattan College
Manhattan College offers both a bachelor's degree program and certificate program in radiation therapy. The certificate program is a 27-month program that is designed for students who already possess a bachelor's degree and have completed prerequisite courses in English, computer science, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, statistics and physics. Both the bachelor's and certificate program require students to complete core radiation therapy courses and a clinical internship. Radiation courses include radiation physics, radiation therapy, patient care, radiotherapy, radiation detection and protection, cross-sectional anatomy and radiation therapy instrumentation.

Bellevue College
The associate's degree program in radiation therapy at Bellevue College prepares students to be a part of cancer treatment teams. The program ensures that graduates understand assist in planning procedures, use radioactive isotopes, maintain treatment records, assess a patient's psychosocial condition and provide care to patients. This 119-credit program is eight consecutive quarters and requires students to participate in clinical training opportunities at two local hospitals.

Argosy University
Argosy University offers an Associate of Science in Radiation Therapy degree program. This is a 78-credit program that requires students to complete 30 general education courses in mathematics, communications, humanities and science. The program offers two track options for students. Students involved in Track I generally have no educational experience and can complete the program in as little as 28 months, while the maximum time frame requires students to complete the program in 42 months. Track II is for students who have already completed the general education requirements and want to focus on a career in radiation therapy. Core courses for both tracks include practices of radiation therapy, treatment planning, ethics, radiation protection, radiation treatment physics and radiobiology.
