As of 2010, RV technicians make an average of $39,000 a year. This is $6,000 more than an average technician, and will vary based on a number of factors including certification, location and employer.
Certification
Those who obtain RV technician certification will earn more money than someone who has an interest in the field and applies without schooling. Completing certification means the RV technician passed on-site training as well as a comprehensive test. Certification is only available through the The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) and The Recreational Vehicle Service Academy (RVSA).
Experience
On-site training is essential to landing a high paying RV technician job. Apprenticeships are available at a number of dealerships across the country where students can learn firsthand what is expected of a RV technician. The more training a person has, the more money he will make.
Location
RV dealerships and shops in larger cities tend to pay more because of a higher cost of living. This is one of the biggest factors as to how much money a RV tech will earn.
Company
Working for a larger dealership may provide a larger annual salary. Smaller dealerships may have less business and openings for RV technicians as well.
