Radiologic technicians in New York must complete a formal postsecondary education program at an accredited school.
Radiology technicians are qualified to provide X-Ray and other diagnostic medical imaging tests in hospitals and healthcare facilities. Also sometimes referred to as radiographers, radiology technicians must complete a formal postsecondary training program leading to a certificate, associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in the field. College programs in radiology should be accredited by The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.
SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse
The SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse is a four-year, public division of the State University of New York system. Located right in Syracuse, New York, the school serves more than 1,300 students each year and offers a bachelor’s degree program in medical imaging. The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Medical Imaging Science is ideal for individuals who want an in-depth education and training in radiography, radiology, sonography, magnetic resonance imaging and other forms of diagnostic imaging. The program takes about two years to complete and includes intensive clinical rotations at upstate New York hospitals in addition to classroom lecture hours. SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse only accepts 20 students each hear into its B.S. in Medical Imaging Science program.

Mohawk Valley Community College - Utica Campus
The Utica branch of Mohawk Valley Community College is located about 46 miles outside of Syracuse and offers associate degree and certificate programs to more than 6,000 students each year. The school offers an Associate of Science in Health Studies: Radiologic Technology degree for radiology technicians who are interested in completing their education. The degree program is actually designed to provide certified radiology technicians with the general education credits necessary to either earn an associate’s degree or transfer credits to a four-year bachelor’s degree program in radiology. Courses in the program cover human anatomy and physiology, general psychology, computer applications, sociology and statistics.

Saint Elizabeth Medical Center School of Radiography
The School of Radiography at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center is located near Syracuse in Utica, New York, and offers radiography programs to approximately 20 students each year. The goal of the medical center is to prepare individuals for successful careers as radiology technicians. The accredited school offers an Associate of Applied Science in Radiography degree program with courses covering topics such as radiation physics, radiographic positioning, radiographic exposure, nursing procedures, medical terminology, and radiologic science and healthcare. Students enrolled in the program must also complete clinical rotations in the fields of nuclear medicine, ultrasound technology and MRI technology.
