X-ray technicians, also known and referred to as radiologic technologists, are educated and trained to perform diagnostic medical imaging procedures on patients; physicians use the medical imaging results to study and diagnose medical conditions. There are schools in Colorado that offer training in radiography to prepare students for entry-level positions as well as certification as a radiologic technologist.
Red Rocks Community College
Red Rocks Community College, in Arvada, offers a radiologic technology program for students to obtain an Associate of Applied Science degree. The program is full-time and accepts between 18 and 20 new students each year. Clinical instruction is provided at clinics and hospitals in the Denver area that have partnerships with the college. Students who complete the program are prepared for a position as an entry-level radiologic technologist, or x-ray technician. These students are also qualified to take the national registry exam through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Concorde Career College
Concorde Career College, in Aurora, offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in radiologic technology. In this program, you will gain hands-on experience in preparing patients for examinations and learn operate the machinery involved with these examinations. In addition to the classroom and laboratory coursework, students are also required to participate in clinical externships at local hospitals and clinics; this clinical experience begins after the first two terms and continues through the end of the program. Graduates are eligible to participate in the examination for certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Pima Medical Institute
Denver's Pima Medical Institute offers an Associate of Occupational Science in radiography and a Bachelor of Science degree program in radiologic sciences. The Associate of Occupational Science program is designed for students with some prior education in radiography; the Bachelor of Science program is designed for those who already hold a certificate from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and are currently working in the field or have graduated from a radiography program in the last five years. Students gain additional knowledge and education needed to advance in their careers as managers and leaders; the program lasts approximately 15 months.
