When symptoms or medical conditions are more serious, the physicians refer patients to other specialists; however, patients still remain with family and general physicians for minor health care. According to BLS, as of 2009, the median salary for family and general practitioners was $160,530 a year.
Sports Medicine Doctors
Sports medicine doctors specialize in assessing, diagnosing and treating medical conditions that are related to sports activities. The doctors treat patients such as professional athletes and individuals suffering from exercise and sports injuries. The goal of sports medicine doctors is to help patients return to participating in their sports or exercise activities as soon as possible, according to Degree Finders. Also, the doctors provide advice such as use warm-up exercises, braces and wraps to prevent injury. In addition to working with their patients, they may work with a team of other health care professionals, including nutritionists, nurses and physical therapists. Cardiologists
Cardiologists are specialists who focus on evaluating, diagnosing and treating medical conditions of the heart and cardiovascular system. Cardiologists generally perform tests such as stress tests and electrocardiograms to assist with diagnosing heart problems. In addition, the specialists create treatment options that include surgery, medication and medical devices such as pacemakers. Cardiologists, according to Degree Finders, as of September 2009 earned a median salary of $215,657 to $370,889 a year.
