Recovery From Breast Augmentaton

Recovery From Breast Augmentaton

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure performed by a cosmetic surgery to place saline or silicone implants in the breasts. The implant may be placed behind or in front of the pectoral muscle with several different insertion options including the armpit, nipple and fold of the breast. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery states that the recovery period is a matter of weeks.

Pain

Patients who undergo breast augmentation surgery should expect to experience some pain after the surgery. Patients will most likely be sent home with pain medications to manage this symptom that resolves in a few days.

Bruising

Due to the incisions and manipulation of the breasts during surgery, some bruising and discoloration may be noticed after the surgery. This will fade in the days after surgery.

Swelling

The swelling will occur almost immediately after the surgery is complete. As healing progresses, the swelling will improve with complete resolution within a month.

Restricted Movement

For several weeks after surgery, the plastic surgeon will recommend restricted movement. This will be especially important in the days right after surgery as the incisions are healing.

Support Garments

Breast augmentation patients will likely go home wrapped in a tight support garment for several days after surgery. After this is removed, a supportive bra or similar support garment will be recommended during the recovery process.
