Digital answering machines are being created with features that help to make life a little easier. In addition to recording messages from callers while you are away, you can also use your machine to screen calls, to give special messages to certain callers and to separate messages for other members of the family in private mailboxes. Setting up these special features is quite easy.
Instructions
1. Study the diagram of your answering machine in the manual. This helps you easily locate and identify all the buttons on your digital machine.
2. Locate the "On/Off" button and turn on the answering machine.
3. Adjust the volume. Look for the volume control buttons on the machine to adjust the speaker volume. The machine will beep when you have reached the highest or lowest setting.
4. Set the clock so you can get a time stamp for each message. Press the "Change" then the "Clock" buttons to begin to adjust the time. Use the "Skip/Scan" and "Repeat/Scan" to change the day and increase or decrease the hour and minute. To make sure you have the right setting when you are done, press the "Clock" button. The machine will announce the current day and time.
5. Decide how you want to use your answering machine. You can use your machine to just give recorded messages to callers or you can use it to record messages from callers. Some brands have general announcements that you can use for both purposes if you decide not to record your own.
6. Assign mailbox numbers. Some answering machines have multiple mailboxes that allow you to share the system with other members of your household. Decide who will have each mailbox and assign numbers accordingly.
7. Record your outgoing message. When recording your outgoing message, be sure to include information on who has what mailbox and what the caller should do to leave a message for a particular person. Otherwise, all messages will be recorded in the first mailbox.
8. Record special greetings. Some answering machine brands give you the option of recording special messages for calls coming from particular numbers, calls from people who have blocked their name and number and calls from areas where the caller ID feature is not available. These callers will hear the messages you have designed for them instead of the general outgoing message.
9. Follow the instructions in your user guide to set a remote access code. This code will allow you to call in and check your messages while you are away.
