Train After Breast Augmentation

Women sometimes find that getting fit and lowering their body fat leads to a smaller chest. You must either accept your new chest or get breast implants to resolve this problem. Women who wish to increase their breast size without gaining body fat have the same solution available to them. While breast augmentation is a costly procedure, the good news is it only affects your exercise regimen for a few weeks at the most. Women with breast implants can exercise exactly like women without implants.

Instructions

1. Discuss your exercise regimen with your surgeon and follow her advice for best results. Surgeons differ widely in their approach to training after breast augmentation. Some are a lot more conservative than others, who let their clients resume lower body cardiovascular training two to three days after surgery. According to plastic surgeon Tammy Wu's web site BreastGuide.com, "if the implant is placed under the muscle, you will be able to do isolated extremity exercises, except bench presses, right away." Isolated extremity exercises include seated rows, leg presses, hamstring curls, leg extensions and abductor/adductor machines.

2. You can start walking on a treadmill, stationary biking and using an elliptical machine after approximately three weeks. Keep in mind that "aerobic exercise will raise your blood pressure, which could cause late bleeding and harm your result," according the web site of plastic surgeon Lori L. Cherup. After four to six weeks, you can start jogging, running, jumping rope and other high-impact exercises if you wish. Listen to your body and stop exercising if you feel uncomfortable.

3. Avoid chest exercises for six weeks post-operation. Some doctors will let you start weight training other areas with light weights after two weeks, others after six weeks. Use your own judgment and increase weight slowly. Err on the lighter side when in doubt. Plastic surgeon Thomas L. Roberts recommends on his website that you keep your arms by your sides for two weeks after surgery, so avoid any exercises that require your arms to reach overhead during this time period.

4. Return to your normal exercise regimen after approximately eight to twelve weeks.
