Panasonic Lumix Fs20 Specifications

The DMC-FS20 takes an average of 280 photos per battery charge.


The Lumix DMC-FS20 is a digital camera developed by Panasonic and released in February 2008. It is an ultra compact 10.1-megapixel point-and-shoot device marketed toward amateur photographers looking for a light and portable camera with modest manual controls. The FS20 features a 4x wide-angle lens, built-in flash and a large LCD screen. The camera cost around $300 when it was first released.


Identification


The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 measures 3.7 inches wide, 2.2 inches tall and 0.9 inches thick. It weighs 5.4 oz., including its removable, rechargeable 1000-mAh lithium-ion battery. The camera has a 3.0-inch LCD display but no optical eye cup viewfinder. Panasonic outfitted the DMC-FS20 with 50 MB of internal storage space. The camera also has a memory card slot compatible with Secure Digital, Secure Digital High Capacity and MultiMediaCard memory cards. The Lumix DMC-FS20 comes bundled with a battery charger, AV cable, battery carrying case, USB cable, AC cable and a strap.


Lens


The Lumix DMC-FS20 features a Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens comprised of seven lens elements in six groups. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to a 30- to 120-mm lens on a standard 35-mm camera. The lens has a normal focus range of 19.7 inches to infinity and a macro focus range of 2.0 inches to infinity. Aperture range varies depending on how the lens is zoomed: when zoomed out to full wide-angle, the lens has a range of F3.3 to F8; when zoomed all the way in, the lens has a range of F5.8 to F8. The lens in the FS20 has autofocus capability and an autofocus assist light as well.


Exposure


Standard ISO settings on the Lumix DMC-FS20 are Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600. When in high-sensitivity mode, automatic ISO settings range from 1600 to 6400. Up to plus or minus 2.0EV manual exposure adjustment is available in 0.3EV steps. The camera's shutter speed can be set to as short as 1/2000 of a second and as long as 60 seconds. The FS20 has a two-second and ten-second self-timer as well as "intelligent" multiple metering modes. It does not have aperture priority, shutter priority or full manual control capabilities.


Image and Video Capture


The DMC-FS20 can be set to take photos as small as 640 by 480 pixels and as large as 3648 by 2736 pixels. The largest photos have an aspect ratio of 4:3 and take up approximately 10.0 MB of storage space. The FS20 also captures videos at resolutions up to 848 by 480 pixels at 30 frames per second. A built-in microphone captures sound when the camera is in video mode. The camera can take up to 2.5 photos per second when taking photos in continuous shooting mode.


Additional Information


The DMC-FS20's built-in flash has a variety of mode presets, including Auto, Red-eye Reduction, Forced On and Forced Off. Scene presets include Sports, Scenery, Soft Skin, Portrait, Night Scenery, Food, Pet, Party, Candle Light, Sunset, High Sensitivity, Hi-Speed Burst, Beach, Snow, Aerial Photo, Starry Sky and Fireworks. The FS20 connects to a computer via a USB 2.0 cable. It is compatible with both PCs and Macs.
