Write An Essay On Dental Health

An essay on dental health should discuss common dental diseases.

Dental health deals with issues such as preventing dental problems, understanding dental conditions and exploring the different treatments available for dental ailments. An essay on dental health can cover various issues of dental health depending on the particular angle you choose to study. But in general, such an essay should cover some of the basic things you can do to ensure your teeth are healthy.

Instructions

1. Discuss oral hygiene. You should mention the benefits of keeping teeth clean by describing in detail the steps, procedures and measures used to keep teeth clean. Mention the effects of using different toothpastes, floss, toothbrushes and other types of dental products and equipment. Talk about why it is important to keep the mouth healthy and how often a dentist should be consulted. Mention what experiences a patient should expect at a dental clinic.

2. Discuss in detail the role of diet in the development of teeth. Mention that food is important for the development of a child's teeth even while they are in the womb and explain the importance of diet during pregnancy. Make it clear that nutrient deficiency during pregnancy can lead to tooth decay in the child later in life while nutrient extremes by a pregnant mother can cause mouth anomalies in her child. This section of the essay can mention the effect of nutrition on a child's teeth from infancy, during youth and throughout their lives.

3. Include common diseases that affect the teeth. Mention what causes the diseases, treat them and prevent them. Indicate that common diseases include halitosis, which causes bad breath due to rotten food in the mouth, plaque and cavities. Explain that plaque is a clear coating on the mouth caused by bacteria and excess plaque makes teeth rot, causing cavities. Mention also the less common teeth diseases such as canker sores, bruxism, a condition in which the patient grinds his teeth while asleep, and stained teeth.

4. Explain that gum diseases can lead to loss of teeth if they are not treated. Define gum diseases, which are sometimes called periodontal diseases. Explain that the diseases begin as infections but if they are not treated early, they can cause the gums to become inflamed. Mention that gum diseases include gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis makes the gums redden, swell and bleed and it later develops into periodontitis if it is not treated. Mention that periodontitis is sometimes a sign of other conditions such as heart disease or diabetes.
