A variety of scholarships are available to students whose life has been directly affected by cancer. The most common sources of scholarships for cancer patients are organizations dedicated to helping cancer patients pay for their college tuition. Some scholarships for cancer patients are limited to students in a particular geographical area, or to students of a certain age group.
Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults provides a variety of scholarships to help cancer patients defray the cost of a college education. As of August, 2010, Ulman Cancer Fund Scholarships were awarded in annual amounts of $2,500. To be eligible, a student must have been at least 15 years of age when she was diagnosed with cancer. The Sean Silver Memorial Scholarship Award is available nationwide to a student who is in active cancer treatment. The Lisa Higgins-Hussman Foundation Scholarship is awarded annually to a student from Maryland, Virginia, or the D.C. metropolitan area who has been diagnosed with cancer. The annual deadline for application is May 3.

National Collegiate Cancer Foundation Scholarship Program
The National Collegiate Cancer Foundation makes scholarship money available to cancer patients through its Scholarship Program. As of August 2010, NCCF Scholarships were awarded in the amount of $1,000, and may be used in the pursuit of a degree in any subject. These scholarships may be received more than once, but they do not automatically renew. To be eligible, a student must be between the ages of 18 and 35, must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and must be a cancer survivor or a current patient. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for support.

Cancer Survivors' Fund Scholarship Program
The Cancer Survivors' Fund Scholarship Program provides scholarship money to cancer patients who are pursuing a college degree. Award amounts vary according to need. To be eligible, a student must be either a survivor of cancer or a current patient, but does not need to be undergoing treatment in order to qualify for the scholarship. An applicant must also compose and submit an essay of between 500 and 1200 words detailing how his experience with cancer has impacted his goals and values. Scholarships are awarded twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall.
