Many women consider breast implants to enhance the size of their breasts. This type of augmentation can satisfy a woman's desire to have larger and firmer breasts, but this surgical procedure doesn't come without the risk of certain complications. For anyone thinking about having breast implants, be aware of the dangers you may face.
Interference With Mammography
After breast implantation, the act of determining the results of a mammogram and the taking of a mammogram becomes more complicated.
Implant Removal
Rupture of an implant (sometimes occurring after compression of the breast when a mammography is taken) or leakage will often make it necessary to have the implants removed, resulting in a deflated appearance of the breast.
Tightening of Scar Tissue
Tightening of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture) may make it necessary for surgical removal of the scar tissue. A new implant may also be required, and this problem can reoccur.
Pain
Pain in the area of the breasts may become a problem after breast implant surgery and may require removal of the implants or the insertion of new implants.
Increase or Loss of Breast Sensitivity
Due to possible increase or loss of breast sensitivity after breast implant surgery, the act of breastfeeding a baby and intimacy may be affected.
Infection
With breast implant surgery, treatment of an infection is more difficult than it is with other surgical infections. It may result in removal of the implants if antibiotics do not get rid of the infection, and additional surgery to replace the implant once the infection clears up.
