Your oncologist will be able to tell you your GOG score.
A GOG score, or Gynaecologic Oncology Group score, is a figure that attempts to quantify the risk of gynaecological cancer after radical hysterectomy surgery. It's estimated that if you have a GOG score greater than 120 three years after surgery, your risk of recurrence is 40%. To calculate the score you need to know three things: the tumor size, the lympho-vascular space involvement (LVSI) and the relative-risk for depth of tumor invasion.
Instructions
1. Determine the tumor's size. As an example, a tumor has size of 5 mm.
2. Determine the relative-risk for depth of the tumor. A tumor with 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, 7 mm, 8 mm or 10 mm penetration will have a relative risk of 1.0, 3.0, 7.2, 14, 21, 26 or 31, respectively. Following the example, because the tumor is 5 mm it would have a relative-risk for depth of 7.2.
3. Determine if the tumor has lymphatic space involvement. If it does not, use 1.0 in the calculation. If it does, use 1.7 in the calculation. In the example, a tumor does have lymphatic space involvement.
4. Multiply the tumor size by the relative-risk for depth figure by the lymphatic space involvement figure to calculate the GOG score. In the example, multiply 5 by 7.2 by 1.7. The GOG score is 61.2.
