Respiratory Therapy Schools In Texas

Respiratory therapy is offered at many Texas institutions

Respiratory therapists are an important part of a medical team, with responsibilities ranging from measuring blood samples for oxygen concentration to maintaining patient ventilation tubes. Respiratory therapy's also a burgeoning career track, as more career-minded individuals seek to obtain either a 2-year associate's degree, a bachelor's or master's degree or continuing their education in pursuit of doctorate. Like many states, Texas offers these programs and more at several accredited colleges and universities.

Associates

The 2-year degree and awarding of the Associates Degree in the Health Sciences can be obtained (currently) in 22 accredited colleges situated across the state, many of which are affordable and accessible community colleges. El Paso, Odessa, Amarillo and Houston's self-named community colleges offer the program, as well as Del Mar in Corpus Christi and San Jacinto in Pasadena. Tarrant County in Fort Worth offers the program as well. It should be noted that tuition may vary from location to location.

Bachelor/Master

Midland College in Midland and Midwestern State in Wichita offer the bachelor's and master's programs, respectively. San Antonio's University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio offers the professional career track that, like a master's, can be completed in four to five years.

Doctorate

Currently four institutions list the availability of a doctoral program for those qualifying students who want the most out of their education. Houston's Texas Southern University and the Texas State University branch in San Marcos offer the degree in Respiratory Therapy. The other two, Galveston's University of Texas Medical Branch and University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, have smaller student populations and limited program slots.
