Aster Technology Institute
Located in Tacoma, the Aster Technology Institute is a private, for-profit technical school located around 10 miles from Lakewood. Among the programs offered by the school are medical billing and front-office assisting, phlebotomy and medical laboratory assisting, security systems technology, network technology, computer forensics and human resources clerking. Programs range from five to 24 weeks in duration, depending on the program. Some courses of study culminate in an externship, allowing students to gain hands-on work experience. The school does not participate in any type of financial aid program.

Bates Technical College is the largest public technical college in the state of Washington and is located in Tacoma, around 3 miles away from Lakewood.
