Beaches In Mexico City

Mexico City beach

The Mexico City artificial beach program started in the spring of 2007 when Mexico City's mayor needed a project for the city's middle class and poor. At the time, 10 artificial beaches were opened in different locations around the city during the Easter holiday and later during the summer. This season, only eight are scheduled to open for the summer season on July 25th and not during the Easter holidays. This change is due to sanitation issues that arose last year from too many visitors and not enough maintenance. Artificial beaches are recreational areas created by hauling in truckloads of sand, planting palm trees and setting up beach furniture around already existing pools or installed inflatable pools. The project costs over $600,000 per year, but is offered as a free service to Mexico City residents and visitors. During the months of beach activity, festivals, concerts, contests and free health exams are also planned for area residents.

This area was once destined to be a residential complex, but thanks to Mexican officials it is now a social, cultural and sports complex offering the 120,000 local residents a recreational area. It is home to one of the artificial beach projects. It is scheduled to open for the season on July 25th with all the other artificial beach projects. The Mexico City government plans on offering concerts, contests and health services, like free mammograms, while the beach is open.

This artificial Beach is in the community of Azcapotzalco and was donated by the Mexico City government as a way to promote family time for lower class Mexico City families. This fenced area covers 6,000 square meters and has two entrances and six emergency exits. This summer, doors open for the season on July 25th, and the municipality plans on adding 1,400 cubic meters of sand by then. The beach is equipped with showers, three volleyball courts, a beach soccer field, karaoke, portable restrooms, umbrellas, tables, lounge chairs and outdoor grills.

This artificial beach is also scheduled to open for the season on July 25th, when truckloads of sand and all beach paraphernalia will be set up. The area is programmed to have live musical events, dancing, sports events and contests throughout the summer. Access is free for families to enjoy. Last year the artificial beach at Deportivo Vida Sana had sanitation issues. But this year authorities say they have taken measures to keep water and the beach area clean.
