They offer free sexually transmitted disease or STD and pregnancy testing services, but you can make a monetary donation if you wish. Receiving an HIV test through one of these clinics can be easy, quick and convenient.
Instructions
1. Call the clinic to make an appointment or to inquire about walk-in hours. Clinics that are busy may require an appointment, while less busy clinics may not. Usually clinics that are near a large low-income population are the busiest and require appointments. If you have several towns within driving distance, you may want to try each one if you prefer the convenience of a walk-in clinic.
2. Go to the clinic to take your test. Most, if not all, clinics use blood work to determine your HIV status, so be prepared for that if you have a fear of needles. You may want to bring something to focus on or a friend for support.
3. Wait for your results. The clinic may have them ready in as little as a few days, but you will need to keep your mind on something else in the meantime. If this is just precautionary or routine testing for you, then you may have an easy time waiting for your results. On the other hand, if you have reason to suspect that you have been intimate with someone who was exposed to the virus, then it may be a little more difficult to wait those few days.
