Grants In Colorado

Grant seekers in Colorado have access to a wide array of government and private funding sources. Government and private agencies in Colorado offer grants that are designed to support various programs such as agriculture, education, sustainable energy and programs for low-income women. Depending on the funding source, applicants may be eligible to make multiple submissions, and should review the submission deadline and eligibility requirements in advance.

U.S. Department of Energy

Colorado is home to the Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). NREL is engaged in innovative research programs and initiatives to promote statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy products and services. Colorado is the largest recipient of weatherization assistance grants from the Department of Energy; grant proceeds are used to help low-income families transition towards more energy efficient homes. In 2010, NREL received $21 million from the Department of Energy to improve energy use in commercial buildings. The grant was made possible under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

Colorado Department of Education

Colorado's Department of Education provides a variety of state and federal grants for educators and education administrators. The Department's website also lists educational funding sources from private organizations like Hewlett-Packard, the Metlife Foundation, the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education and the Verizon Foundation. Colorado Department of Education's Pre-K-12 education grant listings include competitive, state and federal awards such as the Capital Construction, the Read to Achieve, School Counselor Corps and the Summer School Grant Programs.

Colorado Department Of Agriculture

The Colorado Department of Agriculture's Market Division offers three types of grants: the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, Advancing Colorado's Renewable Energy (ACRE) Program and the AG Products Utilization and Marketing Program. The grants are designed to support Colorado's agricultural and renewable energy sectors. Grant proceeds can be used to conduct feasibility studies or to seek local, national and international market opportunities in the agriculture sector. The Specialty Block Grant is used to increase the production of specialty crops like fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruit and nursery crops. The grant is open to producers and state and local organizations including academic institutions.

Private Grants

Private grant seekers in Colorado can apply to a variety of grant programs such as economic sustainability, healthcare, social change and environmental stewardship and women's issues. The Women's Foundation of Colorado offers grants to help low-income women and girls achieve economic independence. The grants are open to nonprofit and local agencies; grantees receive up to $20,000 per organization. The Wolcott Family Foundation supports grassroots organizations in Colorado in two key areas: environmental stewardship and social change. The foundation solicits proposals from nonprofit organizations; grant awards range between $1,000 to $5,000.
