Ultrasound Diagnostic Schools In Philadelphia

An ultrasound technician uses medical imaging equipment to get a peek at interior organs for diagnostic purposes.

Ultrasound technicians, also known as diagnostic medical sonographers, are responsible for using x-ray machines, magnetic resonance imaging equipment and other technologies to generate images of patients' internal systems for diagnostic purposes. Diagnostic medical sonographers can specialize in certain fields, such as abdominal, breast or obstetric sonography. Aspiring professionals in the field should enroll in a two-year associate's degree or four-year bachelor's degree program in medical imaging, diagnostic medical sonography or ultrasound technology.

Thomas Jefferson University

Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia offers a bachelor's degree program in radiologic sciences for students who are interested in gaining a comprehensive background in medical imaging technology. Students enrolled in the program are expected to gain a practical and clinical education in various types of medical imaging technologies, including magnetic resonance imaging, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, radiography, general sonography, cardiac sonography and vascular sonography. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for certification examinations by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
