MRI technology is a specialty in the radiology field; technologists also operate X-ray and CAT scan machines. The purpose is capture images of a patient's internal organs for diagnosis of various illnesses, diseases and other ailments.


Michigan Average Salary


MRI technologists are categorized as "radiological technologists" by the Occupational Employment Statistics website, a publication issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In May 2009, MRI technologists made a mean or average annual salary of $49,480, or $23.79 per hour, according to the OES website.


Michigan Metro Salaries


Just like in any other job, MRI technologist salaries vary by metro area. In Battle Creek, Michigan, MRI technologists averaged $53,770 per year, eight percent more than the state average. Other profitable metropolitan areas for MRI technologists were Ann Arbor, offering an average yearly salary of $51,590, and the Detroit-Livonia-Dearborn combined metro area, where the mean salary was $52,310 per year in May 2009. The combined Lansing-East Lansing area, on the other hand, paid an average $48,860 per year, 1.3 percent less than the Michigan state average.
