Binaural beats facilitate meditaton, induce sleep and heighten energy.


Binaural beats help facilitate meditation, induce sleep, heighten energy levels, increase creativity and improve focus after only a few minutes through the phenomenon of brainwave entrainment. Which state is invoked depends on what kind of binaural beats are used, how they are listened to and what the user is doing at the time of listening.


Listen


Listeners use a variety of ways to listen to binaural beats. Using headphones achieves the best results, but some users prefer to listen through speakers. In addition, listeners can vary the duration and context of listening. For instance, some people may want to listen to an energy-inducing waveform for a few minutes just before engaging in a challenging activity, or, perhaps, during a break as an aid to reduce recovery time. Conversely, listeners can use binaural beats for long periods while engaged in a stressful situation as a way of staying calm and unfettered.


Types of Waveforms


To create a specific state in a person using binaural beats, the user must play a waveform that is associated with the desired state of consciousness. Gamma waves are associated with high abstract thought and problem-solving skills. Beta waves occur during states of intense focus, arousal and anxious preparation. Alpha waves can signal pre-sleep activity or a relaxed feeling while still awake. Theta waves are present in dream-states, during meditation and a state of strong creativity. Delta waves are the slowest waveform in the brain and occur primarily in the deepest stages of sleep.


Disguising Binaural Beats


Some people find the sound of straight binaural beats annoying or distracting. For those individuals, it is usually best to mask the sound with a more pleasant or more familiar noise, or light music. Nature sounds are very popular, such as waves crashing on the beach, crickets chirping at night or a light rainstorm.


Misconceptions


The effects of binaural beats are subtle and gentle, not drastic and abrasive like the effects of a drug. This is because brain wave entrainment does not force the brain to create a particular type of brainwave; it simply encourages it. It is common for people not to notice the effects of binaural beats at first. Yet, over time, the benefits usually become more apparent.


Counteracting Psychological Problems


Binaural beats can quickly produce a calming effect in the user. Many people with addiction or anxiety problems keep a CD player on hand with the very tracks intended to induce relaxation and reduce the effects of a manic state or drug craving.
