Radiologic technology is a field of diagnostic medicine involving imaging and radiation therapy. Radiologic technologists must have knowledge of imaging equipment and techniques, radiation safety and protection, human anatomy and position patients for exams. Tacoma Community College is 36 miles outside of Bremerton and offers a radiologic science program which takes eight quarter-terms to complete. Program applicants must be high school graduates or have a GED and complete seven prerequisite classes. Prerequisites include medical terminology, English, math for the health sciences, chemical concepts, communication and classes in anatomy and physiology. Degree courses include radiographic positioning, principles of image formation, radiation physics, pharmacology and IV therapy, and imaging pathology. The curriculum also includes clinical education at local hospitals and imaging centers. During clinicals, students receive instruction as well as practice techniques they have learned. Graduates receive an associate in applied sciences degree and a certificate of completion.

Pima Medical Institute
Pima Medical Institute is 65 miles from Bremerton. The school offers an associate degree program for radiologic technology which takes two years to complete. Students will need 92 credit-hours to graduate. General education classes include study skills, math applications, communications, computer literacy, and anatomy and physiology. Degree coursework offered during the six-semester program includes physics, principles of exposure, radiographic biology, positioning, methods of patient care and three radiography classes. Students will also get clinical experience for hands-on training. Program applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and pass a Pima Medical Institute entrance exam.

Bellevue College
Bellevue College is 68 miles from Bremerton and offers an associate of arts degree in Radiologic Technology. Students can complete the eight-quarter-term program in 23 months. Program applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and must attend a program orientation session. Prerequisite courses include math, English, biology and one or two cultural tradition courses such as anthropology of American life or history of civilization. Core degree classes include positioning and related anatomy, computed imaging, patient care, advanced radiographic procedures and radiation biology and protection. Clinical coursework will give students hands-on training. The school also offers certificate programs in several radiologic technology specialty areas. They include CT Imaging, MRI, a vascular intervention program and an imaging-aide program. Certificate programs require 16 to26 credit-hours for completion.
