Start A Lighthauling Pickup Truck Business

The cost of a pickup is determined by the make and model you choose to purchase.

Consumers and business owners use light-haul pickup trucks to provide hauling services. Jobs performed using a pickup truck include moving appliances, hauling scrap metal, transporting plants and moving furniture, among other thhings. Starting a light-hauling pickup truck business consists of determining if the area where you are located is able to offer enough work to warrant purchasing the equipment, license and insurance required by talking to local business owners. Marketing your business after start-up is important to maintaining a work load.

Instructions

1. Apply for financing for the required start-up costs. Trucks used for light-haul loads are priced between $20,000 and $45,000 depending on the type and size you purchase.

2. Purchase the equipment required for a light-hauling pickup truck business. This includes a truck, trailer and tie-down straps for securing the product you are hauling.

3. Contact your local business licensing department. Purchase license to meet local and state requirements for your hauling business.

4. Take out a liability insurance policy to cover any property damage you may cause to others property when hauling it. Also, insure your equipment to protect yourself from damage.

5. Name your business. Make the name recognizable by others as a hauling company. Place the name on your pickup truck by either having it painted on or purchasing a magnet sign to attach to the truck. Also, consider making your business a Limited Liability Company (LLC) when naming it to reduce personal liability and gain tax benefits (See Resources).

6. Advertise your light-hauling pickup truck business. Use the local newspaper to run ads. Also, place business cards and flyers with your business name, contact information along with licensing and insurance information at the local hardware stores, furniture stores, plant nurseries and auto parts dealers.
