Oncology Research Grants

Oncology research grants improve cancer treatment methods.

Oncology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Oncologists have the difficult task of delivering the bad news of a cancer diagnosis to patients. They explain the intricacies of the patients' diagnosis, as well as outline the risks and benefits of treatment options-radiation, medication, chemotherapy, surgery or palliative care. Oncologists rely on clinical trials to provide patients with new and innovative treatment options. Researchers in oncology seek to advance the knowledge of the mechanisms of cancer, carcinogens and therapeutic agents to ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Community Oncology Research Grant

The ASCO Cancer Foundation sponsors Community Oncology Research Grants. Grants target community-based initiatives to improve clinical trial recruitment and retention. The ASCO offers one-year grants. As of 2010, grant awards totaled up to $30,000.
