Cost Of Replacing Saline Breast Implants

Cost of Replacing Saline Breast Implants

There are two FDA approved saline breast implants: Mentor Corporation's and Inamed Corporation's (formerly McGhan Medical) saline-filled breast implant.

How Long Do Implants Last?

There is no way to know for sure how long an implant will last. The average is 7 to 12 years, yet some last as long as 15 years.

Physical Risk of Replacement

Replacing saline implants involves the usual risk of going under anesthesia as well as risk of infection.

Recovery from Replacement Surgery

The good news is it is less painful and recovery is shorter. You should be up and around within a few days to a week.

Replacement While Under Warranty

If the replacement occurs while the saline implant is under warranty, (usually 10 years), some out-of-pocket expenses for surgical fees, operating room and anesthesia may be covered as well as the implants themselves. Check your warranty information.

Out of Pocket Expense of Replacement

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery each cite an average figure near $3,400 for surgeon fees. Replacement surgery including an implant and hospital fees is usually less than $5,000.
