The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for clinical laboratory technicians such as histology techs (working with human tissue) will increase by 16 percent from 2008 through 2018. A number of private and public colleges in the United States offer programs in histology technology. Carrying the accreditation of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, these schools qualify graduates for voluntary certification in the field from the American Medical Technologists or the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel.
Harford Community College
A public, two-year institution, Harford Community College is in Bel Air, Maryland. The college is home to more than 8,000 students and offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in histotechnology as well as a short-term certificate in the field. To earn the two-year degree, students complete courses in anatomy, physics, behavioral sciences, microbiology, medical terminology, ethics, general chemistry, and technical writing. Argosy University at Twin Cities
Argosy University offers its histotechnology program at its Twin Cities campus in Eagan, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul. The college offers its Associate of Applied Science degree in histotechnology in both a traditional 22-month format and an accelerated 18-month course of study. Among the required courses for the degree are anatomy, chemistry, medical terminology, immunochemistry, communications, algebra, ethics, and problem-solving. Three laboratory courses and one clinical internship are required. Eligible students can participate in federal and state loan and grants, private lending, veterans benefits, work study, scholarship, and occupational rehabilitation programs at Argosy.

Clover Park Technical College
Located in Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park Technical College is a public, two-year institution located approximately 10 miles from Tacoma. The school offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in medical histology technology, which requires approximately two years to complete. Prior to enrolling in the program, students must take classes in chemistry, mathematics, biology, and English. In addition to the professional courses in the major, the program includes computer sciences and public speaking. Prior to graduation, students participate in three laboratory classes and one semester-long internship. Federal and state loans and grants and worker re-training aid are offered through the college as well as a limited number of institutional scholarships. An on-campus daycare center provides child care for students' children. Job placement assistance is available to all students.
