Health care is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States today, and offers a wealth of job opportunities for people who are interested in helping others.


Administrative Jobs


Administrative and support jobs in the medical field include such careers as medical transcription, insurance coding, reception and accounting, among others.


Professional Careers


Professional medical careers require extensive education beyond college, as well as clinical practice and residency or internship. Medical doctors (MD), dentists (DMD), Physical Therapist (PT) and Chiropractors (DO) all fall under this category. MDs may choose to specialize in any number of categories of care, such as pediatrics, oncology, cardiology, orthopedics and more.


Professional Nursing


Nurses play a vital role in the health care system, providing the majority of hands-on patient care, and are employed in many different settings.


Allied Health


Allied health workers comprise the greatest part of the medical industry, and include trained workers who provide support to doctors and nurses through specialized knowledge. Jobs such as dental assisting, ultrasound technician, physical therapist assistant, surgical technician and medical assistant all fall into this category.


Career Outlook


According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in the health care field are expected to continue to increase at a much greater than average rate for at least the next 5 years.
