How Long Does It Take To Become A Radiology Tech

A radiology tech prepares and positions patients for X-rays. Techs are also responsible for taking and developing patient X-rays.

One-Year Program

Certification can be obtained in 1 year for individuals that are transitioning from other medical careers.

Two-Year Program

Two-year programs lead to certification and an Associate's degree. The 2-year track is the most common for radiology techs.

Four-Year Program

Four-year programs lead to a Bachelor's degree and certification. A Bachelor's degree can open more career opportunities and increases earning potential.

Certification

After completing an educational program, you must pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification examination.

Ongoing Recertification

After becoming a tech, it is necessary to be re-certified every 2 years. To be re-certified, you have to commit to 24 hours of continuing education during that 2-year period.
