Radiology technicians use radiation for medical imaging.
Radiology technicians (or radiographers) are health care professionals who use various forms of radiation for medical imaging and diagnosis--including X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and mammography. Most radiology training programs are certificate or associate degree programs lasting about two years, with some schools offering four-year bachelor programs as well. Southwest Ohio has several schools that offer radiology programs to students pursuing a career in this field.
University of Cincinnati-Raymond Walters College
Raymond Walters College, the career-training and continuing-education arm of the University of Cincinnati, offers an associate degree in radiologic technology. Courses include anatomy and physiology, sectional anatomy, radiologic science and imaging and radiographic pathology. Prerequisites for admission include high school biology and chemistry and college algebra. Students enrolling in the program are considered pending radiology majors until accepted into the clinical portion of the program, and are expected to fulfill preliminary courses in the meantime. This school also offers an expanded bachelor's degree in radiation science technology, as well as a certificate program in radiation science for working professionals continuing their education.
