Education and training opportunities for EKG technicians.
EKG technicians operate cardiovascular equipment that traces electrical impulses transmitted through the heart. To obtain a reading, a technician attaches electrodes to the patient's chest, legs and arms. The EKG results are then printed and examined for abnormalities. To offer students additional skills in the medical field, EKG programs are often combined with program in phlebotomy. The latter involves collecting samples and drawing blood from patients. Graduates of an EKG program are eligible for certification through the American Medical Technologist and National Association of Health Professionals.
College of DuPage
