Medical Cme Courses

Medical professionals can earn CME credits online or in the classroom.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses are useful for medical professionals to keep up-to-date in their field. They can earn CME credits through online and classroom courses, and even through reading journal articles, publishing research or making a presentation at a medical conference. The CME credit system is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), so professionals should make sure course providers are accredited prior to registering for courses. Courses are assigned varying credit levels and are applicable to certain areas of medicine.

Mayo Clinic Courses

The Mayo Clinic School of Continuous Professional Development offers courses that qualify for CME credit. The courses include classroom courses and online courses. The live courses are presented in venues throughout the U.S. and in other countries. They focus on a particular aspect of medicine or medical technology, and those interested can find courses suitable for their area of expertise on the school's website. The online courses offered are also specific, and students study at their own pace before completing the course to receive the credits. Registration for some online courses is free.

AHC Media

AHC Media offers free online courses provided through webcasts or through a case history system. Medical professionals can search the courses by specialty or by specialty credit. For example, some of the courses offered count toward American Medical Association (AMA) credit. Professionals need to register through the website to access the courses.

American Seminar Institute

The American Seminar Institute (ASI) provide CME courses in an audio format. The courses are approved by the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Each association places a cap on the amount of credit hours professionals can claim using this system. Courses cover a wide range of subjects, including emergency medicine and anesthesiology.

Langone Center

New York University's Langone Center offers in-house courses to medical professionals seeking CME credit. The courses are live and work through seminar presentations and question-and-answer sessions. The center presents different courses each month and lists the CME course schedule on its website.

Texas Medical Association

Medical professionals can also bring CME credit to their institutes. The Texas Medical Association provides speakers for events upon request for a fee. These live presentations count as CME credit for the participants. Examples of the live courses include a practice management course, which focuses on documentation and management; courses focusing specifically on physician health; and courses on cancer prevention.
