The University of Michigan is renowned for its highly rated degree programs in various disciplines, including its medical school. The university's medical school is consistently rated a top-tier program by publications such as "U.S. News & World Report." Michigan consistently receives funding from the National Institute of Health for its cutting-edge research as well. Students at Michigan have the opportunity to receive hands-on training in one of the university's three medical hospitals and 40 health centers. Wayne State University
Wayne State University's medical school, located in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, owns the distinction of being the largest single-campus medical school in the United States. Wayne State offers students an opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary approaches to medical research with its offering of M.A, M.D., and Ph.D. degrees. Students can pursue these degrees singly or jointly in various combinations, such as pursuing the M.D. degree in conjunction with the research-oriented Ph.D. One of the unique aspects of the Wayne State program is its Center for Urban & African-American Health that researches therapeutic and preventative medicine for these specific populations. Science departments within the school include anatomy and cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, immunology and microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and physiology. Clinical departments also include anesthesiology, urology, neurological surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience, and internal medicine, among others.

Michigan State University
Michigan State University, located in East Lansing, Michigan, is one of the top-rated medical schools in the nation for primary care, according to "U.S. News & World Report." Michigan State's College of Human Medicine is a school of osteopathic medicine that focuses as much on preventative care and holistic medicine as it does on diagnostic medicine. Special research institutes sponsored by the university's medical school include the Center of Excellence in Minority Medical Education and the Office of Medical Education Research and Development. The school also sponsors a graduate program in genetics and cell and molecular biology. There are also 19 separate academic departments within the medical school.
