Information On Safety Award Programs

Safety award programs can help create safer work environments.

Worker safety is important not only in industrial sectors but also in office, retail and customer service environments. Safety award programs can help promote day-to-day employee safety and keep your workplace accident-free.

Definition

Safety award programs recognize individual employees---or teams of employees---for following safety guidelines and bringing unsafe conditions to the attention of their supervisors.

Employee Involvement

Before implementing a safety incentive program, gather your employees and describe the program and the criteria upon which they will be judged. Then review general safety guidelines, as well as your company's individual safety policies.

Hazards

During this meeting, ask employees to identify current and potential workplace hazards. This is especially useful during times of business remodeling and expansion. They may report unsafe conditions you did not know existed, and you'll be able to make your workplace as safe as possible.

Committee

Establish a committee that will review and judge worker safety achievements, regularly evaluate the safety program, and suggest any necessary changes.

Awards and Prizes

Be creative with your awards and prizes, and regularly switch them up so that your staff remains energized about the program. Prizes can take many forms, including trophies, gift cards, catered lunches, certificates for free massages or spa treatments, and bonus vacation or sick days.
