Radiography Schools In Pennsylvania

Radiography schools provide training to prepare students for careers as radiologic technologists and radiographers.

Radiographers also are sometimes referred to as radiologic technicians and perform imaging examinations on patients for diagnostic purposes. Radiographers may choose to specialize in imaging modalities such as mammography, computed tomography of magnetic resonance imaging. Schools are available in Pennsylvania that provide radiography education.

Pennsylvania College of Technology

Pennsylvania College of Technology has a radiography program that is designed to be completed in two academic years with the addition of two summer semesters. The college suggests that students spread the curriculum over the course of three years for satisfactory completion. Required courses include principles of radiographic exposure, radiography ethics and orientation, introductory physics and contrast media and operating room procedures. Upon completion, students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree.

Holy Family University

Holy Family University offers a radiologic science degree program that educates and trains students to enter the field as radiographers. This program begins in the fall semester of each year and can lead toward the completion of an Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science degree. For students who choose to pursue the bachelor's degree, they may choose a specialization area such as computed tomography, mammography or magnetic resonance.

Northampton Community College

Northampton Community College offers a radiography program that allows students an option to cross train in modalities such as computed tomography, mammography, magnetic resonance and nuclear medicine. If students do not wish to train in a specialization, they may opt to stay in the general radiography curriculum plan. The program is designed to be completed in 21 months of study and includes courses such as fundamentals of radiologic sciences, radiographic procedures, advanced imaging and pathology for radiographers.

Thomas Jefferson University

Thomas Jefferson University offers two bachelor's degree options in radiologic sciences. The first option is designed for students with no prior education or experience medical imaging and can be completed in two years on a full-time schedule. The other option is the advanced placement program that is designed for students who have earned a bachelor's degree that includes the required prerequisites; this program is designed to be completed in one year on a full-time schedule. Both options begin in the fall semester annually.
