Breast cancer is a serious disease that affects approximately 200,000 women each year. A number of websites promote breast-cancer research, support and information in order to make the public more aware of this disease and what we can do to stop it.
Susan G. Komen
The Susan G. Komen For the Cure foundation is an organization dedicated to promoting awareness and research about breast cancer. Their site contains information for people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer as well as their families and friends. It also offers an opportunity for survivors and current breast-cancer patients to share their stories and places for interested individuals to donate to the cause.
Breast Cancer Site
The Breast Cancer Site contains a clickable button for donating free mammograms; visitors click and sponsors pay for mammograms for women around the world. The site also offers opportunities for visitors to sign petitions about breast-cancer research, purchase products that donate proceeds to provide mammograms and work with charitable partners to make sure that every woman has access to cancer screenings.
National Breast Cancer Foundation
The National Breast Cancer Foundation website provides links to signs and symptoms of breast cancer as well as FAQs and information on diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, it provides community forums for discussion about breast cancer and opportunities for site visitors to donate to the cause and help to stop breast cancer in the future.
American Cancer Society
The site for the American Cancer Society provides mainly information rather than fundraising. This site includes information on diagnosis and treatments for breast-cancer patients, including a decision-making tool to help breast-cancer patients determine a course of action for treating their condition. They also offer "stories of hope" from breast-cancer survivors and a section of advice on talk to your family about your breast-cancer diagnosis.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month site does not solicit donations of any kind, but rather seeks to provide information and resources for people interested in learning more about breast cancer. This site contains a calendar of breast-cancer events across the United States, a selection of recipes for breast-cancer patients and news links to breast-cancer articles. It provides information for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, their families and long-term survivors.
