Xray Tech Vs Radiologist Tech

Radiologic techs are sometimes called x-ray techs

Radiologic techs and x-ray techs both work in the healthcare field taking x-rays. The terms mean the same thing and are interchangeable.

Role

Radiologic techs/x-ray techs take radiographs, or x-rays, of the human body to diagnose injury and disease. They usually work under radiologists--physicians who specialize in radiology.

Education

Most x-ray/radiologic techs have an associate degree in radiologic technology from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology-accredited program. X-ray/radiologic techs can also choose to get a certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists to enhance their hiring and/or earning potential.

Salary

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, x-ray/radiologic techs made a mean annual wage of $54,000 in 2009. That year, according to the BLS, more than half of them worked in hospitals.
