Breast cancer is a frightening reality for many women. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Fortunately, there are a number of organizations dedicated to helping the afflicted and funding research to find a cure. One way to support these organization is through an in-kind donation of goods or services, such as a bicycle that can be used as a raffle prize or auction item.
Instructions
1. Locate a non-profit breast cancer awareness or research organization in your area. Use the Internet or a phone book to conduct a search for local affiliates of national organizations, such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure, or smaller locally based organizations. Select a recipient organization based on your personal preferences.
2. Contact the breast cancer awareness or research organization by telephone or e-mail. Inform the agency that you wish to make an in-kind donation, and ask if they will be able to use the item. Typically, such donations will be used as a raffle prize or auction item. If the the organization you chose cannot use your donation, request a referral to another organization that can.
3. Deliver the item to the organization's office. Call first to arrange a delivery time. Deliver the item and any relevant information, such as owner's manuals or purchase receipts.
4. Ask the recipient organization to provide you with a donation receipt for your tax records. Provide the individual issuing the receipt with an accurate description and value of the item. Use this receipt to verify your tax deductions with the Internal Revenue Service when you complete your annual tax return.
