Orthopedic Technician Schools

Orthopedic technicians (or orthopedic technologists) typically assist orthopedic surgeons by creating and maintaining casts, braces, splints and prosthetics for patients, ensuring a good fit and proper mobility. This profession, as part of the field medical appliance technology, is expected to grow by 11 percent between 2008-2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There are no official requirements to pursuing a program in orthopedic technology other than a high school diploma or equivalent; however, some schools offer certificate or associate's degree programs to train students for entry-level employment or further certification.
