1. Take science and math courses in high school.
You can get a great head start on a radiology technician degree in high school by taking as many science, math, and health courses as possible. Make sure to get good grades in order to keep yourself eligible for scholarships.
2. Research radiology technician programs for length, accreditation, and cost.
The radiology technician training can last anywhere from 2 years (an Associates) to 4 years (a Bachelors). Research various radiology technologist programs for their length of completion, graduation and placement rates, accreditation, and tuition costs.
3. Take the radiology technician pre-requisites.
Many radiology technician programs are advanced and require recent completion of "pre-reqs", or pre-required courses. For example, a radiology tech course may require a passing grade in chemistry 200. Talk to your college counselor to find out what pre-reqs are required to get into your specific radiologist program.
4. Apply to a radiology technician program.
Apply to a training program at least 8 months before you complete pre-reqs, so that classes don't fill.
5. Take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) exam.
Once you have completed the radiology technologist program, sign up to take the ARRT exam. Once you are finished, you will be an official, certified radiology tech and you will be able to start your job search.
