What To Say In A Get Well Card

One of the easiest ways to cheer up a friend or family member who is sick is to send them a Get Well card. These cards not only express your sympathy for the person, but also show that you truly care about their health and well-being. When deciding what to say in a Get Well card, you should aim to accomplish four main tasks: acknowledge that you are aware of their current condition, show that you truly care for them, give them hope for their recovery and express your own wishes for their quick recovery.

Friendship

If you prefer not to talk about the person's illness or medical condition, you can avoid the topic by simply discussing your friendship with the person. If their illness has kept them secluded, tell them how much you miss them and that you cannot wait to see them again. Fill them in on your life and give them any new and exciting news that they may have missed while they have been sick. Talk about things you would like to do with them when they get better; this will give them something to look forward to.

For example, if one of your co-workers is sick, you could say something similar to this: "Work hasn't been the same without you around, and I miss seeing your smiling face in the office every day. Business is going well, and you will be excited to know that our boss is throwing us all a pizza party next month to celebrate how well sales have been lately. I sure hope you're back to work by then! If not, you and I will go out for pizza once you're feeling better. Hope you get well soon!"

Humor

If you know the sick person particularly well, you might add a bit of humor to your Get Well card. Even if you take the humorous path, it is important to keep most of your card genuine and sincere. It is important that the recipient does not feel as though you are being inconsiderate or making fun of his illness. However, humor goes a long way in brightening a person's mood and if you can easily add it into your Get Well card, you should.

A good example of something humorous to write in a Get Well card could include: "I am so sorry to hear that you are sick, and I want you to know that I am thinking of you and praying for your quick recovery. I am also praying for your beautiful home, as your husband and three kids have been there on their own for the last few weeks. Should I stop by to make sure they haven't completely destroyed it yet? I am only joking, of course, but I hope it put a little smile on your face! Get well soon!"
