Every beauty regime should include water.
Beauty is ageless, but the techniques and practices we use to enhance beauty change as we age. Women in their 40s and 50s require a different approach to beauty than younger women, and should adopt new techniques to help reduce the signs of aging and highlight their assets. These beauty tips touch upon both lifestyle and cosmetic changes you may incorporate in your 40s and 50s for beautiful results. Does this Spark an idea?
Protect Skin From Sun
Sunscreen should be a habit for you by now, but if it isn't, make sun protection a priority. UV rays can prematurely age skin by contributing to fine lines and wrinkles. Always apply sunscreen first thing in the morning before makeup and reapply throughout the day if you are in the direct light or in the water. If possible, avoid the sun during peak hours (12-3pm) and try to wear a wide-brimmed hat while outside to protect your face.
Exfoliate Regularly
Exfoliation is extremely important to any anti-aging beauty regime. Skin may look dull and lifeless as it ages but exfoliating helps to remove this old layer of skin. Include a cream scrub or loofah into your weekly skincare routine. Gently scrub skin in a smooth, circular motion to remove the top layer of dead skin cells. Exfoliation also stimulates new skin cell growth. According to the Skincare Resource Center, "Exfoliation is an essential component of any anti-aging skin care regime in order to promote cell renewal and younger, healthier skin. "
Stop Smoking
In addition to the well-documented risks of serious diseases, smoking can cause permanent damage to your skin. According to Dr. Peter Selby, clinical director of addiction programs at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, smoking prematurely ages your skin, causing wrinkles, fine lines and reduced elasticity. Dr. Selby says," With 4,000 harmful chemicals in every cigarette, each time you breathe the smoke in and out of your lungs, you are aging your body, your face, your teeth and your skin."
Drink Plenty Of Water
The Mayo Clinic recommends that adults drink approximately eight glasses of water each day. All skin, but in particular aging skin requires hydration to maintain elasticity and resilience. Glowing complexions require moisture, so be sure to consume enough water each day. Aim to drink the majority of your water without anything added to get the maximum health benefit.
Find A Great Foundation
Even with a healthy lifestyle, there may be days when you could use a little help. Makeup can cover blemishes, dark under-eye circles, dull complexions and age spots. Your best bet for finding the best shade for you is to speak with a professional cosmetician who can match your skin tone to an array of products. Ask about light-reflecting foundations and products that distract from fine lines and soften wrinkles. Always apply foundation to clean, moisturized skin and be sure to use an effective makeup brush to get an "airbrushed" finish.
