X-rays are one type of test performed by radiology students while training.
Radiology programs teach students to perform exams on patients by using test such as x-rays, cat scans, MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging) and ultrasounds. These students are trained to follow doctors orders, and these test diagnose problems in patients. Schools located in Meridian, Mississippi and surrounding areas offer programs that produce entry-level workers and are accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.
Meridian Community College
Meridian Community College has a two-year accredited associate's degree program in radiologic technology. This program applies critical thinking, effective communication skills and problem solving to train radiography students. The program covers six semesters and students must maintain a C average to continue from course to course. Interested students must be 18 or older and need an ACT score of 18 with at least a 17 on the math portion or a 69.5 on the ACCUPLACER reading section, and a 62.5 on the algebra section. Further requirements are an anatomy and physiology class taken in the last five years, a 2.0 grade point average on all previous college or high school work, two references, 28 hours of observation work in a radiology department and a background check. Submit all theses requirements along with the application and the college will notify potential students if selected for an interview.

Jones County Junior College
Jones County Junior College is one hour from Meridian and has a two-year accredited program. This department has two tracks for interested students: pre-radiologic technology, which prepares students for a four-year college, and medical radiologic technology, which prepares students for the entry-level radiology field. Interested students must submit an application, take a medical exam, have two references and submit to a background check.

Copiah-Lincoln Community College
Copiah-Lincoln Community College is two hours from Meridian and has a two-year accredited medical radiologic technology program. Students are trained for the radiology workforce through laboratory work, clinical training and class work. Interested students must be 18 years old, have an ACT score of 19 or greater, submit to a drug test and submit to a background check. Once an application packet has been received, students will be notified for interviews.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College - Jackson County Campus
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's Jackson County Campus has a two-year radiologic technology program and is three hours from Meridian. This accredited program trains students to think critically and problem solve with regards to all aspects of radiology. Interested students need a 2.5 grade point average, and an ACT score of 21 or better, and must submit to a drug test. Selected applicants will be called for an interview in the department. All application packets should be taken to the secretary of the health occupations department.
