Garage interior lights set up on motion sensor?
Has anyone had any experience with motion sensors for their interior lights? Building a brand new garage and just toying with the idea. The garage is big (30x36), and I thought about having separate sensors for the main area and the shop area. Wondering if anyone has tried this and whether there were any positive or negative comments. Not quite sure of your question but the new openers by Chamberlain, Liftmaster and Craftsman have motion sensors that control the lights built in. Sorry, I was talking about the other interior lights, not the ones supplied with the door openers. So, the extra lights you put in to light the rest of the garage. Not sure how well the work with fluorescents....but many office and public buildings have them in the restrooms or storage rooms. The residential ones normally have a button or switch for always on. You'll have to be careful in planning the placement of the switches though. The normal position near a door might not be ideal for a sensor. Yeah, placement could be the difference between a winner or loser. Been trying to think of where is best. the motion sensor are nice until you are sitting still and the lights go out, then you gotta get up and move around, they drive me nuts Originally Posted by Doorman2722 the motion sensor are nice until you are sitting still and the lights go out, then you gotta get up and move around, they drive me nuts Haha, yeah, that could be a problem! Although, the one I am looking out can be set at different shutoff times, as far out as 25 minutes. If I am motionless in my garage for 25 minutes I am either dead or sleeping, and in either case lights are better off at that point anyway. I have traditional lights in my garage controlled by a light switch but I also have a outdoor motion light mounted inside the garage. When coming or going in a car the motion light comes on for additional light and it also works when we pop out to the garage to get something from the deep freeze. I've left the motion lights with a short 5 minute timer and with most activity that's enough time that I'm moving around and re-setting the timer. Whenever I'm going to be in the garage for a while I still turn on the light switch. The biggest problem I have with the motion lights is when the garage is hot. Summertime or pulling a couple hot cars inside can really heat up the garage and when it gets into the mid 90's or hotter the motion lights become very unreliable. I think a 98 degree human becomes almost invisible in a 98 degree room.
