Whirlpool Duet Dryer Troubleshooting

The Whirlpool Duet dryer is one of the more expensive dryers on the market, generally costing more than a thousand dollars. With such high cost, however, come some great features. Many of them come with a light interior drum, anti-wrinkle protection and a feature to make drying clothes more quiet. They also dry clothes very quickly, have a large drum and have moisture sensor technology. As with any appliance, however, no matter how fancy, there are bound to be problems. Try to save yourself some money by troubleshooting the issues on your own.

Unit Will Not Power Up

If you find that your unit will not turn on, check the 120V AC electrical supply. Ensure that the unit is properly connected to the power. You may also want to check the wiring harness connections to make sure they are secure. If that doesn't work, check the control electronics to see if they are working properly. If you can't solve the problem, you'll need to call in a repairman.

Unit Will Not Cycle

When you press the Start button, your dryer should begin to cycle. If this is not the case, make sure you are holding down the Start button for at least 3 seconds. The wiring connections may also not be secure, so check them. In addition, if the displayed number flashes, make sure the door is completely closed. Once the door is tight, press and hold down the Start button again for 3 seconds.

Unit Will Not Turn Off

If your dryer keeps running, even when you try to turn it off, test the Pause/Cancel button to make sure it works. Also check the moisture sensor. It is supposed to sense when the clothes are dry enough to stop. If it is not working, it could possibly keep running long after it should stop. Finally, check the control electronics and their housing to make sure they are functioning properly.
