Gigaware wireless optical mice developed by RadioShack maintain the regular functions of a regular mouse with the added benefit of wireless connectivity. However, the device won't work if it's not properly configured or if the computer isn't detecting the USB receiver. Gigaware optical mice are designed for both desktops and notebooks. If the mouse isn't working, RadioShack provides solutions to common causes of connection problems.
Power
In most cases, the Gigaware mouse won't work if it has run out of power. The wireless mouse is powered using AA or AAA alkaline batteries depending on the model. If the mouse isn't connecting to the USB receiver, replace the old batteries.
USB
Gigaware wireless optical mice are only compatible with computers that support USB 1.1 and newer ports. In fact, they are only compatible with Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. In addition, if the USB port to which the receiver is connected isn't responding, plug the receiver into another port. Plugging the receiver into a USB hub connected to the computer can at times cause problems, so plug the device directly into the computer.
Range
Gigaware mice vary in operation range depending on the model. Some have a maximum operation range of 3.5 feet, while others can extend to 9.8 feet. If the mouse is out of the operation range, the receiver connected to the computer will not be able to detect it. Refer to your mouse's manual for the optimal operation range.
Tips
The Gigaware mouse won't function well on surfaces made of glass, black velvet or mirror. In addition, water can disrupt normal operation. If the device is exposed to water, wipe it immediately with a dry, lint-free cloth. Dust and dirt may also cause sensitivity problems. If the mouse is dirty, clean it with a lightly damp cloth.
Recommendations
If the Gigaware mouse is still not working, it has most likely lost its pairing with the receiver. Before pairing the mouse to the receiver, verify that the ON/OFF switch under the device is in the ON position. If you press the connect button under the wireless mouse and on top of the receiver simultaneously, the devices are paired.
