Remove Calcium Deposits From Windows

Clean calcium deposits from windows with acidic cleaners.

Calcium deposits on windows form from the minerals in water oxidizing onto glass surfaces. Iron and magnesium in water forms white lime scale on windows and is difficult to remove. Acidic cleansers dissolve the calcium deposits and make cleaning the lime scale easier. Household items such as white vinegar and lemon juice can clean stubborn water stains from glass. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Mix a solution of four parts white vinegar and one part water in a bucket. Pour the solution into a spray bottle or leave it inside the bucket. White vinegar is acidic and breaks down calcium deposits.

2. Spray or wipe the vinegar wash onto the window. Allow the vinegar to work on the calcium deposits for 30 seconds before rinsing from the window.

3. Rinse the vinegar solution from the window with a sponge dipped in cool water from another bucket. Rinse the vinegar wash completely from the windows.

4. Wipe lemon juice on calcium stains with a clean rag if the vinegar solution did not remove them entirely. Lemon juice is another acid that can cut through mineral deposits.

5. Leave lemon juice on the stains for two to three minutes, then wipe away with a wet sponge.

6. Wipe the windows dry with a clean, soft and lint-free cloth. Dry the window thoroughly to avoid leaving streaks on the glass.
