Protect Yourself Against A Sexually Transmitted Disease

Sexually transmitted diseases are real. If you are involved in sexual activities, you are not exempt from catching one. STDs are harmful and can lead to other medical problems such as HIV and AIDS. Fortunately, there are ways to protect yourself and your future against STDs.

Instructions

Protect Yourself Against A Sexually Transmitted Disease

1. The best way to protect yourself against a sexually transmitted disease is abstinence. By not having sex, your chances of getting a sexually transmitted disease are slim.

2. If you choose to engage in sexual activities, do it safely and protect yourself. Use contraceptives such as birth control and condoms. Even if you are engaging in oral sex or any other type of sex, it is important to use contraceptives.

3. Communicate with your partner about sexually transmitted diseases. By talking with your partner and sharing past and present experiences and information about your sex life, it could help you better understand each other's history and knowledge of STDs. It's OK to ask your partner about STDs. It is your right to know, especially if you intend on having sex with your partner.

4. Go for a doctor's visit. If you've engaged in any sexual activities, it is important to get tested. Even if you totally trust your partner, get tested. Some STDs have no symptoms (such as chlamydia), so you would never know if you have it unless you get tested. You can even make it fun by making a date to get tested together.
